HubSpot cut 660 jobs. What it means for your portal

Your portal, your data and your contract are unchanged today. How HubSpot builds, prices and supports the product is what moves. Here is what we know, what we don't, and the four things worth checking before your next renewal.

Sales & Solution Specialist

On 6 October 2026 HubSpot told its staff it is cutting nearly 660 roles, about 7% of the company, and reorganising its product teams around customer outcomes instead of around Hubs.

For a business running on HubSpot, nothing in your portal changes today. Your records, workflows, reports and contract are where they were last week. What changes is how HubSpot builds the product, and HubSpot's own memo says pricing and service are part of that.

So the useful response is a short check, not a migration. Know your renewal date and terms, know which features you actually use, know who your contacts at HubSpot are now, and watch how AI features get priced over the next two quarters.

What did HubSpot actually announce?

The announcement came as a memo from CEO Yamini Rangan, published on HubSpot's site and filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) the same day. The facts that matter for customers:

The memo is direct about the reasons. In HubSpot's words:

We need to move faster, stay closer to our customers and focus our resources on our highest priorities.

Customers don't think in Hubs and features.

This is not driven by AI-related efficiencies.

This is not simply a cost-cutting exercise.

Some outlets have framed the cuts as AI replacing people. HubSpot says otherwise, and we'd go with the company's own filing over a headline.

What is HubSpot changing about how it builds the product?

Until now, HubSpot product teams were largely split along product lines: Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub and the rest. The memo says that ends. Teams will be organised around four things customers want:

They want to generate demand, win deals, delight customers, and scale growth.

From Hubs to outcomes: how HubSpot is reorganising its product teams
From Hubs to outcomes Product teams that were organised by Hub (Marketing, Sales, Service, Content, Operations and Commerce) are being reorganised into teams that each own one of four customer outcomes: generate demand, win deals, delight customers and scale growth. Marketing Hub Sales Hub Service Hub Content Hub Operations Hub Commerce Hub One product teamper outcome Generate demand Win deals Delight customers Scale growth

Source: HubSpot CEO memo, 6 October 2026. The memo names the four outcomes but does not say which Hub's team moves where, so this shows the change in structure only. Hubs are still how the product is sold.

Each team owns a whole outcome from start to finish. HubSpot is also cutting management layers so decisions sit closer to the people building.

If you've ever hit the gap between two Hubs, you know why this could be good news. The lead scored in Marketing Hub that sales can't act on. The deal in Sales Hub that service can't see once it's closed. Those gaps exist partly because different teams owned each side. One team owning "win deals" from first touch to signed contract should, in theory, close them.

"In theory" is doing work in that sentence. Reorganisations take time to show up in the product, and the SEC filing itself lists disruption to customer relationships as a risk. Expect the first two quarters to be uneven.

Does anything change in your portal right now?

No. There is no announced change to your data, your existing features or your contract terms. Hubs are still sold as Hubs. The memo talks about how teams are organised, and does not say Hubs are being retired or repackaged.

What does it mean for Australian customers?

HubSpot has not said which countries or teams the cuts fall on. Its Sydney office, open since 2014, is listed on HubSpot's own site as its Asia Pacific and Japan headquarters, and it also has offices in Singapore and Tokyo. Whether that mix changes, we don't know yet, and we won't guess.

What you can do is look up your own renewal date. If it's more than six months away, you'll see at least two more quarters of HubSpot's results, and probably its first pricing moves, before you sign anything.

Two Australian specifics worth a look in your contract:

  • Currency. HubSpot publishes its Australian prices in AUD. Check that your renewal quote is in AUD too, and how GST is shown on it. If any line is quoted in US dollars, the exchange rate moves your price as well.
  • Notice periods. Check the auto-renewal clause and how many days' notice you need to give to change seats or tiers. Diarise the last date you can make a change as well as the renewal date.

Check your portal before HubSpot's changes reach your renewal

We will go through your HubSpot usage, your AI credits and your contract terms with you, so you know what to keep, cut or renegotiate while pricing is still settling.

What should you check before your next renewal?

Four things, and none of them takes more than an afternoon.

1. What you actually use

If HubSpot moves towards pricing on outcomes or usage, the businesses that know their own usage will negotiate from a better spot. Run our HubSpot adoption audit and note which paid features nobody has touched in 90 days. Our EOFY ROI audit covers the money side.

2. How your AI spend works

If you use Breeze agents, you're spending HubSpot credits, and credit pricing is exactly the kind of thing that could change. Know how many credits you used last month and what they did. If your AI work is growing, compare that with running some of it on your own model API key. We wrote up the numbers in Breeze credits or your own API key.

3. Who you deal with at HubSpot

Write down your current account manager and customer success manager, and confirm them by email this month. If one of them changes, you want the handover to include your renewal terms and any discounts that were agreed verbally. Anything agreed on a call and never written down is worth getting in writing now.

4. How well your portal is documented

If the people who know your portal best are at HubSpot or with a former partner, you're exposed to any change on their side. Keep your own record of the properties, workflows, integrations and reports that matter, and who owns each one. It's useful whatever HubSpot does next, and it's the first thing we'd ask for anyway.

Should you be looking at other CRMs?

Not because of this announcement. A 7% headcount reduction at a company that just reaffirmed its revenue guidance is not a reason to move your whole revenue system.

Moving CRM costs a 100 person business months of work, a data migration and a dip in how well sales and service run while everyone relearns. Our post on what a bad implementation costs puts numbers on that. You'd want a much better reason than a news story.

The right time to weigh up a move is when HubSpot no longer fits how your business works. If that's already true, the signs show up in your own portal well before they show up in HubSpot's announcements, and our 11 signs your HubSpot setup has drifted is a good place to start.

What about the OpenAI bundle HubSpot just launched?

In September HubSpot and OpenAI launched an AI Growth Bundle: HubSpot Starter at a discount, the HubSpot connector for ChatGPT, and buy one get one free on ChatGPT Business seats for a year. As at 12 October the offer page is still live with no end date listed. It's for new HubSpot customers who have never paid for a subscription, and the page doesn't mention Australia, so check eligibility with HubSpot before counting on it. It's a sign of where HubSpot is heading: AI sold alongside the CRM, priced as part of the deal.

If you're weighing up which AI assistant your team should use at all, we compared the three main ones in ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot.

Frequently asked questions

Is HubSpot in financial trouble? Nothing in the filing suggests it. HubSpot reaffirmed its Q3 and full year 2026 revenue guidance on the same day it announced the cuts. Its share price has fallen a long way this year, which is a separate question from whether the product keeps running.

Will HubSpot get rid of Hubs? HubSpot hasn't said so. The memo changes how product teams are organised. Hubs are still how the product is sold today. Watch for packaging changes at renewal time.

Will my HubSpot price go up? Nobody outside HubSpot knows yet. The memo says the new direction is changing pricing, without saying how. The practical step is to know your renewal date, your notice period and your actual usage before any new pricing is announced.

Does this affect HubSpot partners in Australia? As at 12 October 2026, HubSpot has not said anything publicly about its partner programme, and its October update to partners doesn't mention the restructure. We'll update this post if that changes.

Is my data safe? Yes. Nothing announced touches your data, where it's stored or who can access it. Your portal runs the same as it did before 6 October.
